About Us

The IDHUS Institute is a think tank specialising in the multidimensional analysis of contemporary cities, understood as strategic hubs for human, social, economic and technological development. In a global context characterised by rapid urbanisation, the transformation of cities poses complex challenges that require comprehensive, evidence-based and action-oriented approaches.

From this perspective, our work focuses on applied research and the production of strategic knowledge on the processes that shape urban evolution in its multiple dimensions: demographic dynamics, mobility and migration; living conditions and social well-being; economic structures and the urban labour market; technological innovation and the digitalisation of urban services; environmental sustainability and adaptation to climate change; forms of urban governance and citizen participation; as well as cultural identity and urban heritage.

Mission

Through comparative analysis, the development of indicators, case studies and prospective models, we generate thematic studies and analyses that enable us to understand emerging trends in urban development and anticipate future scenarios. Our methodological approach combines quantitative and qualitative tools, integrating statistical data, geospatial analysis, ethnographic studies, surveys, interviews and public policy reviews.

We actively collaborate with local and national governments, universities, international organisations, the private sector and civil society organisations to co-create innovative and sustainable solutions to urban challenges. We produce reports and publications, monographic dossiers and public policy proposals aimed at improving urban quality of life and promoting more inclusive, resilient and smart cities.

We believe that the in-depth and systematic study of cities not only allows for a better understanding of urban transformation processes, but is also a fundamental tool for influencing decision-making and the collective construction of more just, liveable and sustainable urban futures.

What we do

At the IDHUS Institute, we are dedicated to the study, analysis and projection of urban transformation on a global scale, with a multidisciplinary and integrative perspective. Our work is structured around several strategic lines of action that enable us to address the complexity of contemporary cities and contribute to their sustainable and inclusive development.

Applied research and urban analysis

We develop studies on urban processes at different scales, combining quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Our analyses address issues such as:

  • Urban demography and migration
  • Social and territorial inequalities
  • Urban economy and labour markets
  • Ecological transition and climate resilience
  • Technology, digitalisation and smart cities
  • Urban governance and citizen participation
  • Culture, heritage and identity dynamics

We produce reports, white papers, specialised articles and informative materials that present our analyses and studies in an accessible way. These publications are intended to promote informed dialogue and broaden public understanding of critical issues in the development of cities and urban areas around the world.

Events and conferences

We organise and participate in international meetings, conferences and seminars that bring together experts from various disciplines to exchange ideas, generate enriching debates and build collective proposals. These events seek to promote critical reflection and stimulate strategic collaborations.

Education and Training

We participate in educational programmes, seminars, talks, specialised courses and practical workshops designed to understand the key concepts necessary in a changing environment and focused on offering a global, clear and holistic view of the most relevant aspects of the social, economic, cultural, demographic and technological development of cities worldwide.

Collaboration and Global Networks

We seek strategic alliances and collaborative projects with academic institutions, international organisations and independent experts. We actively promote international cooperation to jointly address the complex challenges of human and social development in our areas of work.
